Foul play at Liverpool Airport

Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport is one of the busiest in the North West, with hundreds of flights taking off and landing each day. The airport is situated adjacent to the river Mersey, home to thousands of flocks of various species of birds and the two don’t mix. Bird strikes (where a bird gets sucked in to an aeroplanes engine) can cause thousands of pounds worth of damage and if a strike occurs in the air this can put the lives of holiday makers and the general public at risk.

Staff at the airport are all too aware of this and so where possible, birds are denied access to any potential roosting sites.

Alongside the potential for ‘bird strikes’, the airport had also been receiving numerous complaints from holiday makers who were leaving their cars in the airports long stay car parks and returning from their holiday to find their cars covered in bird droppings, especially where cars had been parked underneath lighting stanchions. Due to the acidity in bird droppings, this was creating blemishes and rusting on the cars.

Never afraid of a challenge, Suddenstrike came to the rescue and successfully proofed all 40 lighting stanchions in the airports numerous car parks using specialist products shipped in from America.

This stopped the birds from landing on their roosting sites on top of the lighting stanchions and so eliminated the problems of birds defecating on vehicles parked in the car parks, it also reduced the risk for a potential ‘bird strike’s’ occurring, as the birds were forced to find an alternative roosting site.
